Homebrew advanced car tracker pt1

5 April, 2016Computing, Electronics Standard

I’m in the process of designing and making a car tracker based on an Arduino Mega clone, GPS and GPRS.

The idea is to be able to track the car from a web page and also (if allowed) control the status of the central locking.

The backend of the system will be hosted on a webserver, running PHP and MySQL. The car device will report every 10s (TBC). I have a SIM card with £10 credit on for the data (cost me £12 thanks to VAT). My SIM800L module seems faulty (can’t recognise the SIM card). I’ve ordered a replacement as well as sent a message to the seller (yay eBay messages across the world!).

Updates to follow, just a quick intro post while at work at lunch.
